Thinking from the South
The Uruguay Sur Initiative is an international space for dialogue, reflection and coordination, convened from Montevideo to advance new strategies for development, productive transformation and a just transition from a Global South perspective. It brings together governments, international organisations, academia, the productive sector and civil society around a shared agenda focused on cooperation, sovereignty and building a shared future.

Montevideo as a meeting point for the Global South
In October 2025, Montevideo brought together leading voices from Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe to open a new space for exchange on green industrial policy, development finance and international cooperation. From Uruguay, the Initiative seeks to build a distinctive, grounded and strategic conversation on today’s challenges and the decisions that will shape the decades ahead.
